In an effort to further implement TVCC's "Students First" policies, a new Student Services office which offers "one-stop shopping" was opened in May, 1997. The office gathers together counselors, financial aid and business office so students can take care of all their registration and financial affairs at one long counter.

A broad variety of services are overseen by the Student Services staff. We've attempted to list some of those offerings below:

The Counseling Center offers the following services:

Individual Assistance
Counselors offer individual help with program and course planning, career decision making, and personal adjustment to college life. Counselors are located in the Student Services Center and are available by appointment Monday through Friday.

Discover
Discover is a computer-based career information resource. It compliments CIS and provides a more in-depth assessment of your interests, abilities, experience, and values. This system gives detailed information on more than 500 job titles, educational institutions and programs, financial aid, and military training.

Appointments are necessary. For more information or to arrange an appointment, contact the Student Services Office at 541.881.5815.

DISABILITY SERVICES
TVCC promotes equal educational opportunities for students who have a disability through it’s commitment to a barrier-free campus. The college supports this commitment by providing in-class and academic services, advising, resource/referral information, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and advocating for the removal of attitudinal and architectural barriers.

Disability services are available to permanently and temporarily disabled students in all programs and locations administered by TVCC. These services are accessed through the counselor in the Services for Students with Disabilities office, located in Student Services, 541.881.5812, TDD: (541) 881-2737. The "Students with Disabilities Handbook" provided by this office details the accommodations and services provided.

Local transportation is available to and from campus in Ontario by the city bus (889-7651), which can transport wheelchairs. TVCC provides specially marked disabled parking areas.

Wheelchair bound students should contact the SSD office before registration and classrooms will be relocated if necessary.

COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE

Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) enables students to put into practice the skills they are learning in the classroom. This provides the student with "hands-on" experience and the opportunity to improve their skills and advance in their existing work situation or a new one.

The student must be working in a position applicable to their chosen career field. If a student is not employed, assistance is available through the CWE Department. Types of work experience include job shadowing, mentoring, internships, paid work experience, and non-paid work experience. A student may earn up to six CWE credits toward their degree. For each credit earned, they will need to document 36 hours at the job site.

If interested, students should contact both their program advisor and the CWE Coordinator. The CWE Department is located in the TVCC BIZ Center and can be reached at 541.881.5762.

Bilingual Education
The need for bilingually trained classroom teachers is very high in the Ontario-Weiser-Nyssa-Payette area. In 1995 Boise State University received funds to establish a teacher training program to train 21 students at Treasure Valley Community College.

Students earn their two year Associate of Arts Degree at TVCC then transfer to BSU to complete the course work for a Bachelor of Arts degree. Treasure Valley Community College offers students on the bilingual scholarship 70% of tuition and fees, money for books and materials, and monthly stipends for those who qualify.

The Bilingual Education Program is an excellent teacher training program that helps educators become better prepared to face the challenges of the classroom. Graduates will be certified to teach in a regular classroom as well as a bilingual one. They will be trained to teach English as a Second Language to K-8 grades and will be eligible to be certified in both Idaho and Oregon. In this program students will learn about the different program models of bilingual education as well as the legislative changes that have changed bilingual education and made it a more viable and necessary tool in our educational system.

Transcript Records
Transcripts are available in Student Records. A transcript contains records of all academic work at Treasure Valley Community College. Generally, a student may acquire a transcript within a few minutes. The student must complete a transcript request form HERE (PDF Form), and pay $5 for one official copy, or $1 for one unofficial copy. A transcript may also be requested by mail. The student should give name, student identification number, period of enrollment, and where the transcript is to be sent, and enclose payment. Transcripts can be faxed or mailed out as hard copy for $8.
Please note that some schools will not accept faxed copies for their official records. Please check with the school.

No other person may receive a copy of the student’s transcript (or attempt to pick it up for the student) except at the student’s written request or if the person has a release signed by the student authorizing access to this record.
